On top of a knoll, nestled amongst towering pines, this charming Victorian farmhouse once perfectly served as the ideal family's weekend retreat, was proved insufficient in meeting daily functions when it was occupied on a full time, and regular basis.

Before committing to a full design process, a series of quick vignettes were created, and carefully studied with the Owners to explore all the possibilities of an addition, to ensure the new addition would not compromise the appeal of the original architecture. The outcome was an addition and renovation flanking the original structure, with enhancing, yet distinctive details.

Re-arrangement of the existing components was necessary to achieve better utilization and composition of space. The existing Dining area was enlarged and expanded into the former Kitchen, allowing a seating for 16 to accommodate any formal dinning events. The existing Kitchen and Mudroom were strategically relocated to the new addition, located to the east side of the house, capturing the mystifying morning sun light and offering the wonderful views of the surrounding horse farm. Above the new Kitchen, a richly detailed Library was created with bookcases integrated with windows, exposed wood beams set in the cathedral ceiling, and built-in desks for computer workstations, and a French door guided one out of the Library onto a spacious deck overlooking the picturesque landscape and swimming pool beyond.

Other improvements included renovating and enlarging the Basement to accommodate a new Fitness Room, and Media Room, and to provide a new entry for direct access from the swimming pool.
